  • 10/23/14--07:55: Post-Natal Home Massage

  • Pregnant and aching all over?
Looking for a Pre-Natal Home Massage lady who can travel to your house to help relief the pain?

Or have you just given birth and have a bulging tummy and looking for someone who can help you with slimming down quick? A Post-Natal massage is SUPER effective in helping you tone and tighten up the stomach muscles and expel wind out from the tummy!

Throughout my pregnancy i have done pre-natal massages (i do it weekly since Week 32) to make me feel better and more comfortable. Being pregnant sure isn't easy and a pre-natal massage helps me sleep much better.

After i gave birth, i also did Post-Natal massage! After giving birth, your tummy will not flatten immediately. Well for me i still looked around 5 months preggers after my baby was out and that really made me quite sad. My tummy went down quick thanks to the massage and binding though! I did a C-Section so i could only start the massage 12 days later (still being very careful around the tummy area). However if you had a vaginal delivery, you can start as soon as you are discharged from the hospital. Which means you can slim down faster! The faster you start on your massage, the faster you slim down.

Oriental Jamu's massage package include the following...

    1. Full body massage with Jamu application
    2. Tummy binding and slimming
    3. Teaching baby massage sequence
    4. Hot stones compression
    5. Complimentary *(binder and telon baby oil)

Jessica from Oriental Jamu is using lemongrass oil to massage clients. (she also has aloe vera unscented oil for clients with sensitive skin)

Lemongrass oil helps give you a soothing and refreshed feeling during the massage.  The massage sequence helps to improve blood circulation and at the same time to expel wind and aids in your water retention.
For breastfeeding mums, Jess will massage your breasts to clear your blocked ducts and increase your milk supply.
Hot stones compression aids in relieving muscle aches that mummies get from delivering babies and also helps to clear engorgements.
Jess will then end the massage with Jamu application on forehead and tummy and will use customised binder to wrap your tummy.
Every mummy who signs up for a package with Oriental Jamu will get a complimentary baby oil and Jess will teach baby massage sequence to you!

Choose between 5, 7 and 10 days sessions.
10 for the best results! I did my post-natal massage for 10 days.

Oriental Jamu offers a 1st trial session at $48 but this trial does not include the binder and baby oil.

If you are interested in a Pre-Natal or Post-Natal home massage lady who can travel to your home and massage you in the comfort of your own bed, feel free to contact Jessica Wong from Oriental Jamu.

  • 10/27/14--11:56: Frozen Breastmilk

  • Another update on my BFing journey!

Bought a chest freezer ($300+ from Best Denki) specially to store my breast milk. Read that milk stored in a chest freezer can last up to 6 months! Whereas in a normal freezer only 2-3 months.

In just 5 weeks post-partum I have accumulated around 100 packets of milk (150-180ml each). Woohoo! Was worried how to go on storing milk since I have already flooded the freezer at my parent's and my place so the chest freezer was a Need! Hopefully when I'm done with it there'll be people who would wanna buy the freezer from me. Was looking high and low for a second hand one but don't know where to find. Or maybe.....keep it for a long time and store pints of ice cream!!! I'll never run out of ice cream at home lol! Or maybe....keep it till I have another baby!! Haha. After Elroy, I'm even more in love with babies! I have always loved babies but now my love for babies are even more mad. It's like I can totally understand why people find it hard to stop at 1. When I was pregnant I was all "I can't do this all over again man. No more!!!!" Well I take back what I said. I would definitely love to go through pregnancy again cus seeing and holding your baby is the best feeling ever!

It has been pretty discouraging seeing Elroy's acne & rashes get worse because of my breast milk though? But the pediatrician said "please don't stop, Breast is Best". Many have asked how long I want to breastfeed for...well, honestly I really don't know how long I intend to breast feed! The recommended period is 9 months. I'll try to pump and store as much as I can and hopefully reach 9 months successfully! Maybe I can stop at 5 months? Maybe I would have enough to feed him till we reach the 9 month mark.

Today I went out for quite long and brought my pump along. It wasn't easy finding a comfortable place to pump though! I actually sat in a toilet to pump for 20min. Felt that the milk was "dirty" and actually pumped and dump. Damn heart pain to throw leh even though my milk supply is abundant. But I really couldn't feed the milk pumped when I was sitting on a toilet to my baby. :/ then I thought to myself, walao if everytime I am in a mall I have to pump and dump, damn wasted! I think next time I just pump in the car or something. Or else I try not to go out for more than 4 hours.

Also received requests for my BM. Something I never knew people would actually do until I started my BFing journey. I remember asking a nurse if it was ok for other babies to drink milk from other mummies and the nurse said "if it's ok to drink milk from a cow, there's absolutely ok to drink milk from another human". I have decided to donate 30 packets I left at my parents' to someone who really needed it. Not a lot but I hope it makes a difference for her :) Don't think I'll be donating anymore at the time being as I have a goal to meet and need to store for Elroy. Once I have hit that "goal" and have excess I'll be more than happy to share. :) Sorry if I didn't reply your email! You can find breast milk on Human Milk 4 Human Babies FB page if you really need it okie? And if you have excess too, do feel free to post there!

Oh and my boobs! My gosh they look so bad under clothes for the past month! I'm around a 34F at the moment and oh boy, they are HEAVY! I'm always hunching. Super ugly one la haha. They are so huge and I can't be bothered to buy a proper nursing bra so I have been wearing tube and sports bras but I had enough of saggy boobs so I googled for a solution. Found bras on this local web http://www.allemom.sg/cat/nursing-bra

Bought the Bravado Underwire Nursing bra after reading tons of good reviews and praying it will fit! And also lift the boobies so I can look good in clothes since I'm going out more often now! Saggy boobs are so so so ugly :( miss my pre preggy boobs and it is sad to never get them back EVER....unless I get a boob job.

  • 10/29/14--23:31: Biolane

  • Will be starting to use a range of products from Biolane for Baby Elroy!

As you all know, Elroy has super sensitive skin. And not all products in the market can be used on newborns but these Biolane products, both the Normal range and the Dermo-Paediatrics range, are suitable.

Biolane products are specially formulated to protect and meet the needs of the baby’s skin. All the active ingredients are carefully selected for their non-aggressive nature so that they are suitable even for the most sensitive skin. They contain 2 core ingredients - What Protein and Wheat Oil. These 2 ingredients contribute to minimise moisture loss/dehydration, nourishes and protects their skin.

Guaranteed to be alcohol and paraben-free, they are formulated at physiological pH and maintain the skin’s natural balance. The products are also recommended by paediatricians and used in maternity wards for over 35 years, accompanying millions of new-borns and their parents for their first days!

Most of their products are formulated with hydra-bléïne that has a unique natural complex with wheat protein and oil that helps limit water loss and has a moisturizing action. That way, hydrolipidic balance is maintained.

Here is the list of Biolane products I have received and will be doing a review for after using it :)

  • 11/03/14--06:33: Helper
  • Just a short update!

I've been doing awesome. Still not struggling because my nanny is still around.

The confinement nanny is going back in 2 weeks time and the maid I chose and brought home the other day wasn't the best choice so we have to look for a replacement. Looking for a helper ain't easy and luck really plays a huge part. I hope the process of the transfer would be speedy so at least when the new helper comes to my place, the nanny can teach her. So thankful I can afford to get a helper too! I really really don't know how I can cope without help. I hope to be able to focus on my baby and leave the housework and cleaning to the helper. Big big kudos to mummies who can do without a helper! I don't think I'll dare bring Elroy out alone. There are so many things to bring out when you bring a baby out. For me, if I'm bringing Elroy out for say dinner with the family, I'll bring x2 diapers, small towel for feeding, extra clothes in case he spits/wets himself, milk bottle & expressed milk in cooler bag, electric pump for pumping, pram. So I definitely need someone to carry the baby bag while I carry Baby E. He doesn't really like being in a pram cus he has to lie down and can't see anything. He is a super curious baby and looooves going out! He is always so alert when he is out and refuses to sleep once he is around people. Oh baby E, you're going to be like your daddy & I...haha.

Looking forward to the new helper though! I hope she & I can be best friends! I know I'll confirm treat her super nicely so I do hope I won't be taken advantage of. I am most afraid of her stealing my valuables!! Jewelry and watches can be kept in a safe but how to hide big expensive bags? :( please please  let me have a nice and honest helper!!! *prays

  • 11/04/14--07:52: C-Section Scar
  • When I decided to do a C-Section, I was filled with a lot of fear. One of it was the fear of the pain when I move about about after the surgery, and the other was how bad the scar would look.

My wound was covered for around 4 weeks and I never really got to see it carefully. However, whenever i went for the change of plaster every week, the doc told me it healed really nicely. I did take a peak of it at Week 2 and was happy with how it looked! So when Week 4 came and I was told I could remove the plaster for good, I was so excited!

This is how the scar looks now. It is the horizontal line across. The dark line in the middle going down from my belly button is a Linea Nigra. The linea nigra is that vertical line on your belly, a pregnancy trademark that shows up on moms-to-be . My c-section scar is really low so I can easily cover it by wearing my pants higher. So yeah, for those who are curious to know how the scar looks like, this is how it looks like at Week 4. A thin red line. Over time it'll fade to a lighter color and then to white.

My stretch marks are DAMN horrendous and bad though. It's all over my tummy, butt and thighs. I'm undergoing treatment for those on my thighs but not my tummy yet. Can't wait to blog about it once I'm happy with the results on my thighs. I am seeing a slight improvement already. Also can't wait to start treatment on my tummy! I know it will never look the same as pre-pregnancy so I'm not expecting a lot, just hoping it'll lightens few shades.

P.s post-pregnancy body ain't the nicest looking but am pleased with how it looks because I expected it to take longer to go down cus I'm eating so so much. More on that soon :)

I have mentioned about going for treatments to help me get back in shape. When I was pregnant I gained 20kg and I never thought it was actually possible for me to lose more than half of it within a month thanks to Breastfeeding. I was eating normally, in fact, more than I normally would compared to before I got pregnant. I eat 4 meals a day, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and  Supper. All full of carbs because I love carbs :X but amazing how breastfeeding enabled me to still shed weight!

However, there were certain areas of my body which stored more fats. Namely, MY THIGHS. My arms were pretty ok and went back to pre-pregnancy size so quickly but my thighs became much bigger than before. My hips were also wider making me look very heavy bottom. I can no longer fit into my old XS-S bottoms.

I never really believed in using machines for weight loss but because I did a c-section I couldn't start exercising so I decided to give O Medical Clinic's Venus Freeze treatment a shot. I told them I'd not blog until I saw results from the treatment. I know it's the treatment which is doing its job because since the first treatment, my weight has pretty much remained the same but only my thighs were getting smaller.

First let me introduce the clinic and the treatment i did...

    About O Medical Clinic
At ONLY, we believe in focusing on you. To sculpt and achieve the skin and body you truly desire. Say goodbye to tedious beauty regimes and practices. The O Medical Clinic is a flagship aesthetic clinic that offers a myriad of the most advanced treatments by professionals, guiding you to your confidence at any age.

    Venus Freeze
This is a multi award winning, world acclaimed treatment in the USA featured in numerous television programs such as The Doctors TV Show, Real Housewives of Vancouver and the Rachel Ray Show.

Using patented (MP)² technology, Venus Freeze utilizes multi-polar radio frequency and Pulsed Magnetic fields which produce a soothing and therapeutic heat matrix over the skin.

This treatment benefits the body by tightening of skin and reducing cellulite at targeted areas. It is effective in reducing the appearance of wrinkles and stretch marks as well.

It is safe, comfortable and completely painless. There is literally no downtime after treatment and is suitable for all skin types.

Price ranges from $288 – 388 per session depending on targeted area.

I have read that it isn't possible to spot reduce, meaning target a certain area of your body to lose weight with exercise. You can only tone the area but actually not burn the fats at that particular targeted area. The Venus Freeze by O Medical Clinic actually managed to make my thighs look smaller. So yup, if you are targeting to lose or tone only a specific part of your body, maybe you should give the treatment a try.

    Here are my measurements!

1st Venus Freeze Treatment Thighs Upper 49cm Lower 44cm

2nd Venus Freeze Treatment Thighs Upper 48cm Lower 42cm

3rd Venus Freeze Treatment Thighs Upper 48cm Lower 41cm

    Before and After Pictures...
    After 1 Treatment v.s After 3 Treatments
Results are very very subtle but it works. My thighs are so so much more toned! You definitely won't see HUGE results after only 1 session. I'm not going to lie and say it's a miracle machine. For me, I went every 5-6 days so it took 15 days for my thighs to be 3cm smaller. There's no downtime though, major plus point. It will take time but I believe you will definitely see and feel a diff after 3-5 sessions. Of course it's going to be way faster and better if you exercise and eat well!

I havent started work on my tummy yet because I did a c-section and it isn't advisable to do it till a few months after the surgery but I will soon and am looking forward to a toned tummy without the loose wrinkly skin! :)

  • 11/08/14--01:27: Sick and Breastfeeding
  • Was down with a fever and my nose couldn't stop running all day yesterday. Went to a doctor to get some meds and for the first time since I started breasfeeding, I was worried about my milk supply going down. I've always been able to pump 150ml in 5-10min but the latest pumping session I could barely hit the 100ml. It's still sufficient for baby but I'm worried it'll keep dropping if I continue taking the meds prescribed. I'm feeling a lot better after 4 hours of sleep though so maybe I'll not take the meds until I feel sick again.

If you're wondering if you can still breasfeed when you are sick, yes you can!

During any “ordinary” illness such as a cold, sore throat, flu, tummy bug, fever, mastitis, etc. you should continue to breastfeed. Just remind your doctor you are nursing so that if medications are needed he can prescribe something that is compatible with breastfeeding. Most medications are safe to take while breastfeeding, and for those that are not recommended there is almost always an alternative medication that is safe.

A week more and I might be left at home alone with baby for a few days if the maid doesn't come by then. Kinda panicking as the days past and my nanny has to leave. Wanna cry because she's soooo good! Nobody is gonna serve me breakfast in bed and prepare a super yummy spread for lunch and dinner anymore :( might go back to the days of eating take outs everyday of the maid doesn't know how to cook well. Having home cooked food for 2 months is damn awesome!

Today i overcame my fear and cut my baby's tiny nails because my nanny said I must learn. My hands couldn't stop shaking. Once I got the hang of it, it is actually super duper easy if you use the special baby scissors so please get that! Using small nail clippers are so much more difficult. Almost done with my baby care "training" with the nanny. Still, I do hope I don't have to be left all alone at home and that the maid comes before nanny leaves because i surely would need help with the house chores. *prays hard*

    Here's my Post-Partum Week 8 update!

What?!?! ALREADY?!?! Almost 2 months since Elroy came into this world! HOW FAST! Starting to fill in my schedule with work stuff already. Soon it'll be Christmas...and New Year. Whoaaa. This year went by fast man.

Went to the gym for a 30 min work out that day and this is my post-pregnancy body at Week 7...

    Post-Pregnancy Current Weight (Week 8): 57kg

    Pre-Pregnancy Weight: 51kg
    Weight Gained During Pregnancy: +20kg

I look normal already and a lot of people can't believe i just gave birth. :)

I have lost 13kg already all thanks to Breastfeeding. Even though i'm still 6 kg away from my pre-pregnancy weight, i am happy with my progress! I feel that i look healthy and i feel healthy!

So many people asked "HOW DID YOU LOSE THE BABY WEIGHT SO QUICKLY?"

    1. Breastfeeding
BREASTFEEDING! Cannot be happier with the choice to breastfeed. It's good for my baby and helped me lose so much weight effortlessly.

    2. Healthy Diet
Diet wise, less sweet stuff! I eat normally (4 meals a day) but avoid chocolates and ice cream. Because i'm breastfeeding, i'm hungry all the time! Dont starve, eat enough for your body as it is working hard producing milk for you baby. However, try to eat as healthy as possible to avoid unnecessary weight gain during this period. During my pregnancy, i was eating sweet stuff every day and weirdly, after i gave birth, i stopped craving for all that. Eating home cooked food must have helped too because it's much healthier than eating out. I also switched to eating brown rice because a lot of people say it's much healthier than white rice.

    3. Massage
Doing a Post-Natal Massage (post here) helped. The binding of my belly really made my belly go down fast.

    4. Treatment at Aesthetic Clinic
For my thighs, i thank O Medical Centre for my Venus Freeze treatment (post here).

I must say, staying active during your pregnancy is very very important too! I was pretty active up to Week 32. I try to swim 2 times a week and brisk walk for 30 mins every other day. I was gaining weight quickly despite being active though.

Even though i gained 20kg - which is quiet a lot, i lost it quick. Silly me, to be so worried, i now understand that my body knows what to do to keep my baby healthy. If you are slightly underweight, you should gain more than the norm. It's ok if you gain more than other people, as long as your baby is healthy, that's the most important!

I have heard stories of people gaining only 7kg during their pregnancy. I was so jealous at first but i realised everyone's body works differently. Don't compare!

Looking good after having a baby isn't THAT tough, really. For me, because i'm a Blogger, looking presentable and good is important so i kinda force myself to dress up and doll up when i go out especially to meet clients etc. A lot of people are too lazy to dress up and put make up after giving birth and i TOTALLY UNDERSTAND. Looking after a baby is tiring. Breastfeeding makes you even more tired. Most days i am just too tired to do anything too, really. Which is why most mummies look so tired. My make up helps conceal all the blemishes and dark eye circles, without it, i'll look like a mess. So my secret to looking good? GOOD MAKE UP SKILLS AND A WARDROBE FULL OF PRETTY CLOTHES. :) I did a lot of shopping online during my pregnancy in my last few weeks so i had a lot of clothes i looked forward to wearing after giving birth. That kinda made me wanna dress up too. I knew i wasn't going to lose the weight THAT quickly so i bought size M/L clothes so i could fit in pretty clothes shortly after giving birth. Didnt want to buy stuff i wouldn't be able to fit into...that might actually make me feel sad about myself.

Dinner at the best Jap restaurant in Singapore (to me) - Shinji. The boy brought me there for Date Night and i am soooo happy to be able to finally try it after reading about it online and hearing him tell me how good the food is. Really pricey dinner (cost us $1.3k for 2) but truly a great experience. If you are willing to splurge on good food, it is a must try. http://www.shinjibykanesaka.com/

Finally being able to eat sashimi is AWWWWWESOME! I stayed away from it during my pregnancy because doctor said it's best not to consume raw food. You can but it's risky. I realized that eating fish makes my milk supply go UP. Not like i need that...haha. It made my oversupply worse? But but  if you don't have a lot of milk and want to increase supply, eating more fish should help. :)

Hope you enjoyed my Week 8 Post Pregnancy short update!

  • 11/12/14--09:20: Eyebrows
  • I've been doing my brows with this lady called Apple for YEARS! Despite having many ppl wanting to sponsor me, I chose to pay to do it with Apple. So this is not a sponsored advertorial, I don't have to share but I will because she's a really good eyebrow artist. Is that what you called it? Haha.

Have shared her contact on my social media platforms before and during my latest visit Apple told me a lot of yall did your brows with her too so for the first time in years she touched up my brows for me for free to thank me for sharing. And my turn to THANK U ALL! Hehe. :)

Still fresh and dark now so it doesn't look pretty. Can't wait till it fades! A lot of people email me from time to time asking about my brows so here is her name card :)

    One side done

Not pain one la so don't worry! AND it looks very natural once it has faded (around 3 days?). She does it stroke by stroke, mimicking your real brow hair.

Here's me bare faced...but not looking so dull? See how much difference dark and nicely shaped brows make!

  • 11/15/14--13:34: FAUX FAYC
  • FAUX FAYC BEST MASCARA EVERRRRR!

Being the cam-whore that I am, I admit that I’m a sucker for mascara that gives a good length with volume. I’m sure all of you will agree that beautiful eyes play a huge part to a good picture. For many years, I’ve tried a million mascaras and don’t even mind suffering for 2 hours for eyelash extensions, or gluing on falsies which totally ruins my eyelashes just to achieve that wide-eye look.

Recently, a few of my friends were raving about a new Mascara in town by Faux Fayc Cosmetics and boy was I glad I gave it a try….

It’s only been a week and I’m totally HOOKED and in LOVE with it!!!

This is the best mascara product I’ve ever used and is definitely No. 1 on my list. I can now say GOODBYE TO MY FALSIES!

The instant length extension and volume is by far the best I’ve ever achieve with a regular mascara:

I only put one coat of FAUXFAYC and it's enough already. They say u can do 3 coats but I don't like it too dramatic, this is the PERFECT length for me.

This new smudge-proof Fauxlash Natural Fibres Duo Set has two tubes; a transplanting gel and another natural fibres tube from green tea extracts (really safe!). It provides me with a drama-like effect with 300% increase in length and thickness while keeping my lashes looking real.

It’s really lightweight, smudge-free and water resistant which thus keeps my lashes curled and clump-free for the whole day.

It is really easy to apply and the best thing about it? It removes easily with lukewarm water! Don’t you all hate it when your eyeslashes fall off with hard to remove mascara?

I did a test by going to the gym with the mascara on and amazingly, it did not smudge or droop a single bit! By the end of the day, I can still have long, beautiful, curled and smudge-free lashes. Nuff said.

I believe that good things must be shared and if you want to achieve a wide eye effect without falsies or extensions, pop by www.fauxfayc.com to grab a set and enter promo code: TAMMYGOESFAUXFAYC for a $2 off!

Checkout their Instagram - @fauxfayc & hastag #fauxfayc and FB Page – facebook.com/fauxfayc for more stunning pictures of beautiful girls who have tried the product!

Once you go Faux Fayc, you will never go back.
GOODBYE FALSIES AND HELLO WIDE EYE!

  • 11/16/14--18:00: VivreActiveWear

  • Have recently been trying to get my exercises back on track after giving birth, and Vivre Active Wear’s apparels couldn’t have come to me at a better timing.

A new wardrobe of exercise apparels means more motivation for me to get to it and workout!

On me is the Flow-with-Breeze tank top ($38).

I swear that the material for the tops are to die for, and with an in-built bra you do not need to buy another set of sport bra. Besides wearing them to gym, these dri-fit tops are so pretty, fuss-free and cooling for dress-down days in this humid weather.

How pretty are the designs below? I definitely can’t wait to get more!

There are so much more designs on their website, and I’m gonna let you check it out yourself. All their designs are manufactured from scratch, giving emphasis on the cutting suitable for Asian ladies.

Besides apparels, they manufactures exercise mats and non-slip towels (suitable for yoga) which have received raving reviews from trainers and customers. You will never get this quality at this price if you were to buy them from brick and mortar stores.

I know getting workout attire can be really expensive in Singapore, and so am glad to have found Vivre Active Wear to share with you girls!

Time to keep those body in shape before festive seasons starts.

  • 11/18/14--01:11: Bye Nanny
  • Today I say goodbye to the best nanny ever. And hopefully we meet again when I have my next child, if it ever happens that is. As mentioned before, can't share her contact as she no longer wants to take anymore jobs as she's old and wants to take a break and only work for clients she is familiar with.

I think Elroy knew she was going back. It's so weird but I really think he knew!!! He has always been really good sleeping through the night since Day 1. However, the last night nanny was there, he refused to sleep and kept making noises. Nanny took him and put him on the same bed as her and he kept quiet. Still refusing to sleep. He just closed his eyes and kept opening to check if she was beside him. When she got up to go to the toilet, he'd cry. And when he closed his eyes and she thought he was asleep and put him back into his bed, he would cry again. It's super weird right?!

So now, THE CHALLENGE BEGINS. Life without nanny :( but thank goodness my helper is here already and she has been awesome so far. She does the cooking and house chores which helped me a lot so i can focus on Elroy. When I chose her, I actually looked at her horoscope cus yknow sometimes it's pretty accurate? Like they say you can sorta tell someone's character from their horoscopes. I have met lotsa nice Libra and Aquarius people and haven't met one I didn't like? Hehe. Of course not everyone is the same la, I've awesome friends of other horoscopes too. Im not that siao to be all obsessed with horoscopes haha. My new helper is a Libra with the same birthday as me! Pretty cool! Hopefully I'll like her and she'll work a long time for me hehe.

It's my first time hiring a helper and I don't know if I'm doing this whole thing right but I hope I am.

I once read a comment by an employer who wasn't too happy her maid switched on the water heater to bathe and in my head I asked "Oh? So such a simple thing as the water heater supposed to be a privilege?".

I watched how my mother treat the helpers in the past and I guess I learnt from her. My mother is always very nice to the maid and treats the maid like family. So when I hired one, I was going to treat her the same. The first time I brought her back, I tried my best to make her feel welcomed and provided her with everything she needed to feel comfortable.

I want my helper to be happy working for me because I believe if she's happy, she'll do a good job. I let her switch on the Air Con in the living room during hot afternoon, give her extra $ to buy whatever food she wants if I'm not home, eat the same food as I do when I'm around, use the same soap & shampoo as I do, drink the soft drinks in the fridge if she wants, watch TV with me at night when all the work has been done, chit chat and tell her about my day and ask her stuff to get to know her better, let her use her hand phone once work is done in the house, let her take 2-3hr afternoon nap if she needs...etc. If she does something wrong, I explain to her nicely and show her how I want it to be done in case she doesn't understand what I'm saying. Like myself, I hate to be scolded and screamed at so I won't do that to her no matter how frustrated I am. For me, since I don't like to scold I'd tell the maid what I cannot tolerate and what she should never do. Warn her that if I'm unhappy with her I'd send her back cus I won't tolerate unnecessary nonsense. In a way i'm "Strict" like that la, i wont want her to make the same mistake over and over again and think she can get away with it -just like that-. I can always find a new one so it is all up to her if she wants to work for me or not. I also ask to check on how happy she is working and if everything is ok for her. They are human and all maids are different. They have feelings too and sometimes some environment aren't suitable for them. If they aren't comfortable and happy working in your house, no point continuing also, shouldn't waste my time & hers. Just change to a new one whom I like and give her the chance to find a house she likes working in.

So far, it's been great having her around. She made a huge decision and sacrifice and came all the way to Singapore leaving her family of 3 kids at home to earn money. It isn't easy to be away from your kids for such a long time and she did it so she could give her children a better life. I do hope she finds happiness in my house and feel like she is part of us so she won't miss home so much. Hope she feels close to my family so she won't feel lonely and sad to be away from her family.

Being nice to her has paid off. Everyday I wake up to a chirpy "Good Morning Ma'am!" and a smile. What a great start to my day! Sometimes hear her playing and talking to Elroy when I'm busy doing stuff in my room. Something she doesn't actually have to do? The house is always Spick and Span when I get home. Every mess I make, especially in my wardrobe, she tidies it up without me telling her to do so. My bed is always nicely made up even if I am out for just awhile. My clothes and Elroy's are always washed on time and neatly folded. I do hope this goes on for a very long time because I am so pleased with her so far!

Am I spoiling her? I don't think so. I always believe you should treat people the way you want to be treated. I have learnt to always put myself in ppl'so shoes and if I were to be a maid, what kind of environment would I wish to work in? I feel that if I am so nice to her, she would be grateful and be a good helper because she would know if I sack her, she risks getting hired by someone who would mistreat her. My family and I are so nice too so it's unlikely she'll find a better family to work for.

Everyone deserves to be treated nicely whatever their "position" is. Moreover, when someone likes you and is happy and grateful, they'd be more than willing to do stuff for you. If she takes advantage of my niceness in future, I'll be so sad but hey, at least I know Ive been the best employer I can be and there's definitely someone out there who wishes they could be in her place.

I have nothing against how other people treat their maids but this is how I treat mine and seeing my maid happy makes me happy! If your maid sucks and you intend to hire a new one, start out fresh and treat her well, maybe things would be different?

But of course, not every maid is the same la? Luck plays a huge part too.
